我們理解的歷史進程總是只有單一的一條路，尤其是當（號稱是）社會主義國家紛紛垮台，或者沒有達到所謂的「經濟發展」水平線時，我們通常也就自然地覺得那是不好的，因為沒有人想要貧窮－－但是我們都忽略了，其實我們不夠理解另一條路線是怎麼被走出來的、是怎麼被走的，從而當然也不會知道那條姑且稱之為社會主義路線的路子不只還沒到盡頭，當中仍有許多岔路。
＊中國社會「改革開放」之後下崗工人的境況，以及之前對於「工」的關係、身為「工人」的認同、「工廠」的物質性及意義（而那跟台灣普遍的「黑手、工人」意義是截然不同的）。簡言之，或許可以說是1980前中國工人的情感結構。

太陽照常升起
你覺得窗外的風太黑，空氣太厚，光線太稀薄，而暗的寂靜以一種尖銳的聲音穿刺著耳，試圖闔起瞪大的雙眼，但是枉然，眼皮是另一層暗、另一種尖銳－－當失眠時，當你失眠時。房間頓時變窄，而黑暗之後好像不會來，沒有之後，有的只有實存的無邊的黑暗，而那是空的虛的，脅迫的。然後你希望就此世界末日，太陽不再升起，不須眼看著黯黑轉暗藍、（被迫）從虛空轉進日常。清晨四、五點時是轉變的時刻，你盡力在四點前讓眼皮是眼皮，夜長而夢多不打緊，只希望不用盯著黑的虛空，腦袋是空也是滿，滿溢黑的暗的，包裹著你害怕的事、你不願面對也不想承認的恐懼。在那時，你的空缺顯露無遺，因此寧願閉上眼，只做夢不睡覺。
過了幾年，明白了這是失眠，不是末日，會有更糟的，這（只）是失眠，這只是你的失眠，這只是你一個人的失眠。即便空缺仍在、虛無仍存，不會因為太陽照常升起而蒸發。你也不會為此而變得正面積極。你仍是夜長夢多，仍是偶爾失眠。但是，太陽照常升起，你告訴自己；太陽照常升起，這世界上的慘事不會少、複雜度不降低，你的失眠好像也就能被你當作常態。就像太陽照常升起一樣。
